I learned a lot from doing this study. I was able to confirm some of my assumptions and prove some of them wrong. There are a lot of advantages to being a CPA, such as: the job being always in demand; the steady salary increase; and job diversity. There are also disadvantages, such as: low starting salary; license invalidation in other countries; expensive tuition and preparation fees; and ever-changing accounting principles.

Overall, I think that being a CPA is rewarding in this day and age. As long as a student has the skills mentioned (perseverance, good memory, logic, reasoning), then I would definitely recommend this career path to them.

Accountants are needed anywhere and everywhere even in a weakened economy. An accountant with a CPA license is more distinguished than another candidate with the same qualifications but without a CPA license. On top of the demand for any accountant, an accountant with a CPA license is just that much more sought after.

As per the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the accounting profession is expected to grow 13% from 2012 to 2022. Employment for accountants and auditors in 2012 was 1,275,400 while projected employment in 2022 is expected to increase to 2,442,200. (Bureau of Labor Statistics)

Accountants and auditors have been ranked #5 as the best jobs of the future according to Business Insider. This takes into consideration both salaries and projected growth in the coming years. (Business Insider)
